The Old House

A peasant house with white walls and a rusty metal roof occupies the centre of the canvas; at its right a corner porch with a pointed roof and wooden rail projects outwards, with a few stone steps at the entrance. The tall shuttered windows are marked by brown and grey strokes. At the right a yellow-ochre haystack, its top covered with a white cloth, balances the composition; around, the vegetation is a grey-green mass treated in short strokes. The sky is pale blue with white clouds. The light is even and gentle, and the details of the carpentry are followed with care.
