Still Life with Corn

A still life in tempera, with simplified forms and firm contours: at the centre a yellow maize cob, stripped of its husk, rests on a yellow funnel or strainer with a brown interior; behind them rise undulating dark green forms suggesting leaves or vegetables. At the left a brick-coloured rectangular form with steps stands in for a box or a machine. The background is divided between a yellow-ochre zone at the left and a grey one at the right, and the table is olive green. The colour is flat, without modelling; the objects read as signs.
