Landscape at Cornu
Peisaj la Cornu
2005 · oil on canvas, 65 × 100 cm
Two trees with slender black trunks rise at the centre of the canvas, their crowns opening into large patches of white, brick red, ochre and blue laid on broadly with the knife, like flags. Behind them a hill rises in bands of cobalt blue, pink and white, its rocks marked by angular forms; at the right a second, golden-yellow tree balances the composition. At the base a few white houses with red roofs and a metal fence line up. The sky is pale blue with white clouds drawn with the tip of the brush. The colour is vivid and autonomous: green is almost entirely absent from the trees.
