Vase with Leaves

A watercolour of two vessels side by side — one cream and cylindrical, the other blue and narrower — from which thin vine branches emerge with leaves at every stage of autumn: green, yellow, orange, crimson, each painted separately with drawn contours and marked veins. In front of the vessels on the table lie a pale sphere and a yellow pear. The background is a grey and blue wash with vertical streaks allowed to run. The white of the paper stays active throughout; the work is a study of leaves, followed one by one, patiently.
