To me, the teacher Ion Șinca is at the same time the artist Ion Șinca, for he was one of the first to teach me that the two notions are only two facets of a single whole. The two roles combined perfectly, fluidly and vibrantly — the master's experience giving solutions to the teacher, and the teacher's patience, intuition and tact bringing masterly techniques to light. The gentleness of the man Ion Șinca was all his own, playful, always appearing when needed — when we had to face the unknowns of an assignment, when we needed support, a kind word, an encouragement. His sayings were famous, from the fatherly "little one" to closing a correction with "shall I draw a little flower on your nose?". But my dearest memory is that he was the first person at school I called to tell that I had passed the Doctoral School exam — and in the receiver I heard his full laughter as he exclaimed: "Oooh, you're out of your mind!".
