Ion Șinca · Tribute

Otherwise It Is an Ordinary Day

To Ion Șinca

My dreams spoke cold words to me
as though December had nested inside them
in the morning
you can see in the garden
how God is shining
in the gilded pumpkins
astonished
that I am even still here
at the same table with me
with the same pen in my hand
and by the fact that I am alive
as though only yesterday I was writing the poems
by the light of your being.

My friend the painter has moved
into the young rose bushes
when I kissed his cold forehead
it was
as though I had kissed the earth
inside him you could hear
the murmur of a spring.

All the dreams stop
at the edge of the cemetery
otherwise
it is an ordinary day for the angels.
I feel
as though I were skating
across the spread of a glacier
without end.

În rest e o zi obișnuită

Originalul, în românește

Visele mi-au spus cuvinte reci
de parcă s-ar fi cuibărit în ele
decembrie
dimineața
se vede în grădină
cum Dumnezeu strălucește
în dovlecii auriți
mirat
că încă mai sunt
la aceeași masă cu mine
cu același pix în mână
și de faptul că sunt viu
ca ieri scriam poemele
la lumina făpturii tale.

Prietenul meu pictorul s-a mutat
în trandafirii cei tineri
când i-am sărutat fruntea rece
era
ca și cum aș fi sărutat pământul
înăuntrul său se auzea
murmurul unui izvor.

Toate visele se opresc
la marginea cimitirului
în rest
e o zi obișnuită pentru îngeri.
Mă simt
ca și cum aș patina
pe întinsul unui ghețar
fără de sfârșit.

The poem is published with the author's consent. The Romanian text is the wording he corrected himself in August 2026, at the archive's request; the English version follows those same corrections. The original comes first and stays whole — the translation replaces it nowhere. The poem has not yet appeared in a book: the author told us, on 19 August 2026, that it is due to be printed in November. Until then, the version here is the one he gave us.
