Sunflower
Floarea soarelui

A bunch of sunflowers spreads across the whole surface: the golden-yellow heads sit at different heights, some frontal with brown centres modelled in circular strokes, others turned away or drooping, their petals twisted. Long stems and large grey-green and bluish leaves descend towards the base of the composition, where brick-red accents also appear. The ground is a warm beige-violet applied in vertical strokes that leave visible brushmarks. The paint is thick and the matter stays on the surface; the yellow is kept warm, close to ochre, which brings the picture near to a study of interior light.
