The companion of the previous work, with the same wide format and the same cool colour: a snowy hill fills the lower half, its slopes broken into plates of white, blue-grey, muted green and brown-violet, while dark bushes and shrubs line the crest, painted in short, almost black strokes. At the left the ground descends into a grey valley; at the right the hill continues beyond the frame. The sky is a pearl-grey surface with a single lighter band of cloud. Nothing gives the scale: no house, no figure — hence the title "phantasm".
