A row of low houses crowds along a lane, their façades in carmine pink, white, pale blue and brick, their metal roofs in crimson, grey and blue set at different angles. Plank and iron fences run in front, and green bushes grow between the houses. Beyond, the hill rises as a blue-green mass with a white crest under a pale blue sky with white clouds. The foreground is a green and ochre slope with the trace of a road. The colour is lively and laid in adjacent patches; the poverty of the place is turned into a chromatic play.
