The Old Quarter 2
Mahalaua 2
2013 · oil on canvas · 49 × 58 cm
A yard seen frontally: in the middle plane a long house with blue-green walls and a pink-violet metal roof stretches across the full width, its doors and windows marked by dark strokes. In front, a washing line crosses the canvas with white sheets and towels hanging, painted in thick slabs of white that cut the composition horizontally. An orange patch — a quilt or a coat — hangs at the centre, the only warm accent. The foreground is grey-green ground with planks and rubble. The colour is cool, dominated by green and violet; the white of the laundry is the centre of light.
