A yellow cylindrical vase with a brick-red band stands at the centre on a table covered with a white cloth worked in relief like lace. Two distinct groups rise from it: above, long stems of carmine-pink carnations opening in serrated petals; below, a compact bouquet of pale pink and white roses with thick petals, set over a nest of blackish-green leaves. The background is a grey-green wall treated broadly, with a churned white band descending at the left. The paint is thick and laid in short strokes, with raised whites on petals and tablecloth; the chord is warm against cool — pink and yellow on grey — and the light falls evenly from the left.
