Landscape with Trees

A small, almost monochrome work kept in pink-grey and muted brown. At the centre a clump of trees gathers, its foliage dark — almost black at the base — with slender trunks rising above it, drawn in vertical strokes. The rest of the sheet is a uniform surface with no distinct sky: hill, mist and air merge into a single pink-grey tone. The foreground is a strip of brown-pink ground with a few greenish accents at its base. The effect is of a landscape seen through fog or in the raw light of early morning, in which only the group of trees has substance.
