Landscape at Cornu
Peisaj la Cornu
2011 · watercolour · approx. 36 × 28 cm
A wet-in-wet watercolour in which the hills overlap in successive bands: in the foreground a raw green slope with dark bushes drawn in short strokes; in the middle, masses of reddish brown, ochre and blue-grey melting into one another; behind, a blue-violet crest drawn with a broad brush beneath a beige-white sky left almost unpainted. The white of the paper is reserved here and there as light. There is no firm contour anywhere: the forms arise from the wet edges of the washes, and the signature and title are written in pencil at the lower right.
