Landscape on the Prahova Valley

A wide valley seen from a slope: in the foreground a yellow-ochre strip of bare ground cuts across the canvas, and above it rise two massive clumps of trees, one at the left and a larger one at the right, painted in grey-green, olive and accents of early-autumn orange. Between them the background opens: low greenish and bluish hills fading into white haze. The sky is an almost uniform beige-pink band filling the upper quarter. The brushwork is short and loaded, thick in the crowns and smoother on the ground; the colour stays muted, with small contrasts, as on a day of diffuse light.
