2007 · oil on canvas, 46 × 55 cm
A clump of autumn trees gathers left of centre, their crowns opening in bright orange, ochre, reddish brown and dark green, applied in broad, nearly vertical strokes; among them a house roof and a few slender trunks can be made out. Towards the right the trees thin into violet silhouettes against bluish hills. The foreground is a broad ochre-pink field furrowed by horizontal strokes suggesting ploughed rows. The sky, more than a third of the canvas, is a white-grey surface with heavy clouds. The light is that of dusk: the warm patch of the crowns stays alight while everything else fades.
