A white house with a brown-violet roof stands behind a tall plank fence, painted in dark vertical strokes that run across the whole foreground. A sparsely branched tree grows in front of the house, and to the right two massive bluish firs rise above the roofline. The background is a hill slope in faded pink and ochre beneath a murky blue-grey sky. The light is that of early morning: there are no sharp shadows, only a bluish haze that binds everything together, and the colour is kept in broken tones — dirty white, grey-violet, muted green.
