A row of white houses with triangular gables crosses the canvas horizontally at eye level; the façades are treated as almost flat surfaces, the windows marked by a few vertical strokes. Between and behind them rise trees painted in dark blue and green, while the hill beyond is a blanket of olive green and white under a thin, warm ochre sky through which the canvas shows. The foreground is an agitated blue zone with a large white patch at lower left that balances the composition. The whole surface is worked in thick paint, in short overlaid strokes — a dense impasto that lets the light play on the relief of the material.
