1986 · oil on canvas · 88 × 74 cm
A panoramic landscape seen from a ridge: in the foreground a dark green and brown slope descends to the right, with a few small trees scattered over it; beyond opens a wide valley with strips of yellow-green meadow and a barely indicated road. The background is a series of blue-grey hills set in overlapping planes, and the sky, which fills nearly a third of the canvas, is a heavy uniform grey with the marks of a broad brush. The colour is muted and cool, almost without accents; the paint is thin and rubbed, and the impression is of a dull day whose light comes from nowhere in particular.
