This Side of the Village
Dincoace de sat
2007 · oil on canvas, 65 × 70 cm
In the foreground a row of trees with round crowns painted in crimson, orange and violet lines up on a grey-green meadow; their slender black trunks are barely visible beneath the mass of foliage, and the round shapes repeat like spheres. Beyond a band of ground and a streak of water, the village appears in the middle plane: a white church with two towers dominates a row of low houses with white and red roofs. In the distance blue hills fade under a blue-grey sky with heavy clouds. The composition is built on repetition: warm circles in front, cool verticals behind.
