Fantasma iernii 1
2007 · oil on canvas, 60 × 73 cm
A winter landscape reduced to essentials: a long low mound rises on the horizon line, built from plates of grey, white, olive green, blue and brick-red accents laid with the knife like overlapping slabs. Around it the snow spreads in white and cream, in broad horizontal strokes with a few rounded forms marking covered boulders. The sky fills more than half the canvas as an almost uniform grey-violet surface with barely visible traces of cloud. The absence of any scale reference — house, figure, tree — is what turns the motif into a "phantasm".
