The Road to Rucăreni
Drumul spre Rucăreni
2002 · oil on canvas · 32 × 40 cm
A cream-white road descends from the centre towards the lower right corner, cutting through ground churned with bushes and boulders painted in blue-green, grey and pink. Above it, at the right, a large tree opens its crown into a mass of dark green, orange and turquoise, with curved strokes that turn around the trunk. At the left the vegetation thins into a pale blue-grey, and at the upper corner two slender young trees can be made out. A few crimson accents appear at the base of the composition. The surface is worked in thin paint with fluid transitions between patches; recognition of the motif gradually yields to the rhythm of colour.
