Fantoma sub clar de lună
1994 · oil on canvas · 97 × 130 cm
A large nocturnal landscape built on blue: the sky fills the upper half as a deep indigo expanse across which drift two grey-violet clouds cut into hard shapes with lit edges. At the centre a crest of white and cream stones catches what reads as a cold light — the only truly luminous passage in the picture. Below it the ground descends into dark blue water and into brick-red and brown banks furrowed with rounded boulder-like forms. The paint is thick, with fluid, almost poured transitions, and the cool-warm contrast of blue against earth red gives the sense of a landscape seen at night but reconstructed from memory rather than described.
