Garden
Grădină
2002 · oil on canvas · 122 × 122 cm
A garden seen from above, almost without a horizon: whole beds of plants with lance-shaped silvery green and bluish leaves spread across the entire surface, painted in short vertical strokes set side by side. Over them run drifts of white flowers like waves of foam, and a few small carmine umbels punctuate the middle. At the top a clump of tall grey-green stems is silhouetted against an almost black ground. The light is diffuse and the colour kept in a cool range of green, blue and white; the effect is of a dense weave in which every stroke counts.
