A close framing of a corner of the garden: in the upper register slender stems carry clusters of star-shaped white flowers with narrow petals spreading in all directions, painted in thick white over an olive-green ground. Below, broad blue-green and turquoise leaves twist and overlap in waves, their crimson undersides showing where they turn. The soil at the lower left is a dark violet-brown zone. No depth is constructed: the planes overlap as in a relief. The paint is thick, with long strokes following the veins of the leaves, and the cool colour is broken only by the crimson accents.
