Geranium

A geranium with carmine flowers stands in a green-glazed clay pot set in a brown dish; its round dark green leaves spread around the slender stems. Beside it on the table are a white enamel mug, a brass pot with lid and handle, a red apple and, at the lower left, a whitish stone. Behind, a folded white cloth falls over an olive-green drape, and a thin red stick leans vertically. The surface is worked in broad opaque strokes; the red of the flowers and of the apple links the two halves of the composition.
