A panorama seen from a ridge: the foreground is a smooth yellow-ochre slope descending from the lower corner, bordered by bushes and trees painted in olive green, blue and orange accents. Beyond them the valley opens in successive layers of ever paler blue-grey, and the distant hills dissolve into a bluish haze. The sky, more than a third of the canvas, is a grey-violet surface with warmer horizontal bands and a brick-pink streak. A small red roof accent appears at the centre. Depth is obtained by fading, not by drawing.
