On a Stone Slab

On a grey stone slab in the open air stand several vessels: a large crimson basin with a white interior occupies the centre; beside it a metal pan, a carmine pot with a long handle, a green glazed jug, two white cups and a few small brown-ochre clay vessels. At the centre a white plate holds a grey metal coffee pot, and beneath it a cobalt cloth appears. The background is an olive-green and grey slope treated broadly, indicating a landscape without describing it. The colours of the vessels — crimson, green, red, blue — are set at full intensity against a muted ground.
