A group composition worked in sepia and ochre: eleven figures, nearly all female, stand frontally in a row, in long robes falling in vertical folds. At the centre a figure with a white veil holds her hands joined while those around her lean slightly towards her; some faces are merely suggested, others drawn with fine ink. Behind rises a barely sketched architecture with openings and a round disc at the upper right, describing no particular place but standing in for a stage backdrop. The technique is washes on paper, the pigment allowed to gather at the edges and the whites reserved on the robes; the effect is that of an old, faded fresco.
