A view from a crest with a very high vantage point: a white path, laid on in thick paint, winds down from the centre of the canvas to the lower left corner, cutting across a grey-green and brown slope. Beyond it opens a wide valley rendered in horizontal strips of pale ochre, muted green and violet-pink that fade towards a chain of dark hills. The sky, a third of the surface, is heavy dark blue with grey horizontal clouds. The brushwork is broad and free, following the fall of the ground, and the contrast between the white path and the otherwise muted tones is the main means of building depth.
