Landscape at Pietriceaua
Peisaj la Pietriceaua
2002 · oil on canvas · 50 × 70 cm
An almost monochrome work in olive brown and grey: right of centre stands a two-storey peasant house with an open wooden gallery on the upper level and a long shingle roof; beside it a smaller outbuilding with a red-brown roof extends to the right. At the left rises a conical stack of poles, and in front of it a leafless tree spreads its thin branches, drawn like threads. The foreground yard is empty, with traces of a path, and behind, the hill closes into a green-brown mass. The colour is deliberately kept muted, as in an old photograph, and all the interest falls on the silhouette of the building.
