A leafless tree occupies the centre: its black trunk branches into thin limbs rising to the upper edge, drawn with firm, almost graphic lines. Behind it the ground breaks into broad planes — a crimson mass at the left and centre, a dark blue form at the right, bands of white and blue-grey above — laid over one another without perspective. The foreground is a smooth salmon-pink strip. The colours are set at high intensity and without transition: red and blue touch directly. The tree remains the only figurative element, the rest working as an abstract composition of patches.
