Landscape at Pietriceaua
Peisaj la Pietriceaua
2002 · oil on canvas · 65 × 81 cm
A group of low houses stretches along the bottom edge: one with a bright red roof, the others with grey sheet metal, all with white walls and wattle fences in front. Above them two large tree crowns spread across the full width of the canvas, painted in cobalt blue, ochre, crimson and dark green in short strokes that overlap like scales. At the left two slender leafless trees cut the composition vertically. The sky is a thick bluish-white surface with knife marks. The contrast between the blue of the crowns and the red of the roof sets the whole rhythm of the work.
