Small Jug with Flowers

A squat green glazed jug stands in a clay dish and holds a large bunch of daisies: dozens of white flowers with ochre-yellow centres on long slender stems fanning out in every direction, almost to the edges of the canvas. Dark green leaves gather at the mouth of the jug, and two fallen flowers lie on the table beside it. The background is divided between an ochre-green zone at the right and a darker blue one at the left, treated in vertical strokes. The white of the flowers is laid on thickly, petal by petal; the effect is of light scattered across the whole surface.
