Vase with Flowers
Vas cu flori

A brick-pink cylindrical vase stands on a crimson table and carries a tall bouquet that opens almost to the corners of the canvas. Above, thin stems bear bell-shaped red flowers and pale green lance-shaped leaves, each painted separately with a firm contour; below, near the mouth of the vase, white and cream roses with thick petals gather in a nest of blackish-green foliage. The background is a warm grey-brown crossed by a few lighter horizontal strokes that suggest a wall without describing it. The paint is dense and matte, with white highlights raised in relief on the petals, and the overall chord — muted red, white and dark green on brown — stays sober and interior.
