Sunflower
Floarea soarelui

A bulbous green clay vase stands on a pink-violet table and holds a bunch of sunflowers: about ten orange-yellow heads, some open frontally with olive-brown centres, others turned in profile or drooping over the rim. Broad dark green leaves twist between the stems and fall heavily to the left. The ground is a grey-green and violet surface treated in vertical strokes, with no indication of space. The paint is thick, the yellow applied in short radial strokes for each petal; the contrast with the green of the vase and leaves carries the whole picture.
