Willows 4
Sălcii 4
2011 · oil on canvas · 39 × 42 cm
Willows seen close to, their crowns spreading across the full width of the canvas in a mass of grey-green, white, ochre and reddish-brown accents applied in thick slabs; beneath them a thicket of slender black trunks and shoots descends to the ground, forming a dense network of verticals. At the base the ground is an ochre and olive strip with white patches. At the right the vegetation closes into a darker mass. The sky is visible only in strips between the crowns, as a diffuse white light. The surface is agitated throughout; there is no resting place for the eye.
