Saxon Houses 1
Case săsești 1
2013 · oil on canvas · 50 × 70 cm
A row of Saxon houses lines a village street, seen frontally: a pale green one with an arched gate at the left, an ochre-pink one with a large arched portal at the centre, a blue-green one at the right, all with brick-red tiled roofs and small regularly placed windows. The plaster is rendered in short strokes, with patches of colour suggesting the wear of the walls. The foreground is a broad pink-grey road with patches of green grass; the sky is an almost uniform pale blue. The colour is gentle and luminous, and the row of gables gives the composition the regular rhythm of a continuous façade.
