A close framing of the inside of a barn: a wooden structure of crimson, almost black posts and beams supports an open upper gallery with horizontal plank walls; beneath it the darkness is suggested by deep vertical strokes. At the right rises a brick wall with fallen plaster, rendered in patches of ochre, pink and blue. The rest of the surface is a weave of turquoise blue and white applied in short strokes that describes reflected light rather than air. The composition is nearly abstract — a network of dark verticals and horizontals on a blue field.
