Phantasm 2
Fantasma 2
2002 · oil on canvas · 42 × 49 cm
At the centre of the canvas a triangular white and dark blue form rises from the water like a rock crest or an iceberg, its facets sharply cut and a deep black shadow on its right side. Around it the water spreads in turquoise-green and white with horizontally dragged waves, and beyond appear brown and ochre banks punctuated by red accents. The background is a chain of brown-grey hills under a washed beige-pink sky filling the upper third. The foreground, in crimson and blue, closes the composition. The paint is thick and knife-worked, the central white being the heaviest layer in the picture.
