A small, almost abstract work: at the centre a white oval form, worked in very thick paint with circular strokes, holds within it a core of bright yellow and brick red, like a fire or a light caught in fog. Around it the matter closes abruptly — dark blue and black above, crimson-brown below, with a few round black patches set at the base like boulders. At the upper right an orange-ochre passage suggests a lit bank. There is no horizon and no scale: the picture works as a fragment of landscape enlarged until its bearings are lost.
