Phantasm in October
Fantasmă în octombrie

A large tree stands right of centre, its crown opening into a mass of golden ochre, orange and brick red furrowed by black branches; beside it a few slender leafless trunks rise straight. At the left the bank of a ravine descends in blue, dark green and cream plates with crimson accents. At the lower right a small house with a red roof and white walls anchors the composition. The background is a cream-white slope, and the sky above is blue with heavy white clouds. Autumn is given not by description but by the warm dominant of the crown, set in direct contrast with the blue of the ravine.
