An ochre, cream and brown-violet bank descends from the left towards the centre of the canvas, broken into smooth knife-laid plates with sharply cut edges. At its foot blue-grey water enters from the right and forms a narrow tongue winding into the distance. Beyond, the far bank is a dark line, and in the distance a barely drawn grey-white crest dissolves into the beige sky. The sky fills the upper third as a warm uniform surface. The colour is restricted to earths and a single blue; the absence of any detail leaves the place undetermined.
