2010 · oil on canvas · 69 × 110 cm

An orange-ochre bank occupies most of the canvas, its surface treated in broad smooth strokes, with a crest of white and grey rocks crossing horizontally, furrowed by dark vertical fissures. Beneath the crest the ground descends in waves of ochre, brick pink and brown, with a blue streak marking water or a deep shadow. Above, the sky is blue with thick white clouds applied with the knife. The colour is warm and saturated, almost desert-like; the scale remains ambiguous — the bank could be two metres high or twenty.
