2006 · oil on canvas · 50 × 50 cm

A tree with a twisted black trunk rises from the bottom edge and opens its branches like a spread hand across the whole surface; the thin limbs, drawn with an almost dry brush, run out of the frame above. The background is divided into broad planes: an olive-green and blue hill at the centre, a cobalt band below, a grey-white zone above with heavy knife marks. At the left, at the foot of the trunk, a carmine patch with orange dots — fruit or a burning bush — is the only warm accent. The drawing of the branches dominates the composition; the colour remains secondary, like a stage backdrop.
