Tree (study 3)
Pom (studiu 3)
2010 · oil on canvas · 60 × 60 cm
A leafless tree rises from the bottom edge and occupies the whole centre of the canvas, its trunk blackish brown and its thin branches drawn energetically, like ink lines, up to the top edge. Behind it the ground is broken into broad planes: a violet-grey and white zone at the left, a brick-red mass at the right, a dark brown strip at the base. The sky is a uniform salmon-pink surface without clouds. The paint is thick in the planes and thin in the drawing of the branches; the contrast between black line and colour patch is the very subject of the study.
