Phantasm over the water
Fantasmă peste apă
2002 · oil on canvas · 50 × 60 cm
A massive grey-white hill fills the upper half of the canvas, its brow covered with dense vegetation painted in blue-green, ochre and red accents. At its foot a few small houses with red roofs line up, and in front of them two slender trees with sparse crowns rise to the height of the hill. The lower half is a stony bank worked in pink-white and grey slabs, cut by a streak of water and by a thin extended line that reads as a cable or a footbridge. The paint is thick, with curved strokes in the vegetation and flat ones in the stone; the colour alternates the cool white of the hill with the warm patches of the roofs.
